Casual Academic - School of the Environment

About the role

The University of Queensland's School of the Environment is seeking casual academics to support the Course Coordinator in delivering course aims and learning outcomes across first-year, second-year, third-year and postgraduate courses. Positions are based at either the St Lucia or Gatton campuses depending on the course, and appointees must be available to attend on campus. Applications close on 2 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate support for practical classes, demonstrations, student field work and excursions
• Mark assessments and invigilate exams
• Prepare for teaching and facilitate class activities that do not require material development
• Consult with students and attend induction sessions
• Complete required training and moderate discussion forums, available online or in person for consultation on specific activities such as simulations
• Take part in other academic activities as directed by the supervisor
• Comply with university policy, the Code of Conduct, Queensland occupational health and safety requirements, and the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 and National Code 2007

Required profile

• Eligible candidates include research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, honours, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and Higher Degree Research students
• Applicants who have previously taught at a significant level and wish to return to work are also welcome
• No firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work, as this is a casual position
