Casual Academic - Physics (School of Mathematics and Physics)

About the role

The School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Queensland is looking for casual academics in Physics who enjoy sharing their discipline knowledge, explaining concepts clearly, giving timely feedback and developing teaching strategies across different settings. They are expected to foster caring, collaborative and inclusive classrooms and laboratories. Positions are casual academic appointments with no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical and applied teaching sessions
• Mark assignments
• Provide teaching support

Required profile

• Strong academic background in Physics, normally with a GPA of at least 5.5 and at least 1 year of undergraduate study
• Completed PHYS1001/1171 and PHYS1002 (or equivalent)
• Honours, Masters by Research and PhD candidates are encouraged to apply; postgraduate coursework students with at least one semester of full-time study are also eligible
• New casual academics should request 3-5 hours of paid work per week, including contact and preparation/marking/meeting time for one applied or practical laboratory
• Shortlisted candidates who have not applied before will be invited to a 5-minute online interview in the week of 23 November 2026
