Cadet Environmental Health Officer (NSW)

About the role

The City of Sydney is recruiting a Cadet Environmental Health Officer for its Health and Building Team in Sydney, NSW. The team offers a friendly, supportive environment with in-house professional development and support for work-life balance. The role gives hands-on experience while completing the final years of study to become a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer. It is a full-time term contract of up to 2 years, starting in early March 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain knowledge to deliver regulatory services within the Health & Building Unit.
• Take part in inspections and programs across the Environmental Health program to ensure legislative compliance.
• Take part in investigations into Environmental Health matters to help make informed decisions.
• Help compile comprehensive and accurate reports so the City can take legal action for breaches of public health and environmental health legislation.
• Provide a high level of customer service reflecting the City's vision and values.

Required profile

• Currently undertaking studies to obtain a tertiary qualification in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or an equivalent qualification in Environmental Health.
• Demonstrated knowledge of environmental and public health legislation, codes and guidelines.
• Excellent communication skills and enjoyment of collaborative problem solving.
