Cadet Civil Engineer

About the role

Coolamon Shire Council is seeking a Cadet Civil Engineer to join its Engineering and Technical Services team, starting January 2027. The role lets you develop practical engineering knowledge and skills while studying civil engineering at tertiary level; the level of study (Diploma, Associate Degree and/or Degree) is discussed with the successful candidate. Duties vary as you progress and are linked to competencies gained through study, on-the-job training and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist engineering design staff with the preparation of engineering designs.
• Assist with construction, maintenance and other engineering works.
• Support the preparation, implementation and review of asset management plans.
• Help collect engineering-related field data.
• Learn relevant legislation, Australian Standards, policies and engineering guidelines.
• Report issues, risks, incidents and hazards promptly.
• Complete allocated tasks, reports and administrative duties accurately.
• Keep up with civil engineering studies and work towards an engineering qualification.

Required profile

• Current NSW Class C or Provisional driver's licence (essential).
• Current WHS Construction Induction Certificate (White Card) (essential).
• Genuine interest in civil engineering.
• Understanding of work health and safety legislation.

• Ability to complete tasks and assignments on time.
