Business-Focused Project Manager

About the role

A leading banking organisation is looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of business-critical projects within a highly visible transformation portfolio. The role suits someone who works at the intersection of business, stakeholders and delivery teams rather than being deeply technical. It is based in Melbourne, Australia, on a contract basis, and the candidate is supported by an experienced Project Manager within the team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of strategic business and transformation initiatives.
• Manage project planning, timelines, risks, issues, dependencies, budgets and stakeholder communications.
• Work with external banking partners, reviewing agreements and negotiating outcomes.
• Collaborate with senior business stakeholders, executives and external partners, and drive outcomes across business and technology teams.
• Facilitate discussions, workshops and decision-making forums.
• Support governance and reporting, and identify and mitigate project risks.
• Ensure initiatives deliver measurable business value and positive customer outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven track record delivering complex business change and transformation programs in large organisations.
• Experience managing relationships with external vendors, partners or third parties.
• Commercial acumen and confidence in contractual or agreement-based discussions.
• Experience working with senior leaders and executives.
• Financial services or banking experience highly regarded; exposure to governance frameworks and committee reporting is advantageous.

• Understanding of technology and digital delivery environments without deep technical expertise.
