Bitumen Ganger - Road Maintenance

About the role

Lockhart Shire Council's Engineering Services is looking for a full-time Grade 8 Bitumen Ganger to coordinate and carry out practical road maintenance across the Shire. The role keeps council roads safe through pothole patching, edge and crack repairs and pavement sealing, and provides day-to-day direction to a small work crew while coordinating plant and materials. It is a Grade 8 position reporting to the Works Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Pothole patching, edge patching, crack repairs and pavement sealing
• Coordinate daily work activities, staff, plant, equipment and materials
• Direct and support crew members, monitoring work quality and safety
• Operate a Jetpatcher and other road maintenance plant
• Inspect and maintain signs, guideposts, guardrails and other roadside infrastructure
• Complete pre-start checks and keep vehicles, tools and equipment safe
• Follow traffic management arrangements, risk assessments and safe work procedures
• Complete timesheets, plant hire records, MMS forms and water and gravel records
• Take part in on-call and emergency response when required

Required profile

• School Certificate or equivalent
• Practical road maintenance experience, including pothole patching, edge repairs, crack repairs and pavement sealing
• Experience operating construction or maintenance plant and working with a team
• Understanding of work health and safety duties, including PPE, hazard reporting and Safe Work Method Statements

Required skills

• General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• NSW Heavy Rigid (HR) driver licence
• Front-end loader Operator Certificate of Competence
• Traffic Controller (TCR) and Traffic Control Plans (IMP) cards
