Autonomous Trainer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Autonomous Trainer to support the new autonomy project at the Olive Downs Complex in Queensland. The role is permanent full‑time, on an 8/6 roster, reporting to the Training Superintendent and working closely with the mining operations team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and deliver training material for autonomous mining systems.
• Coach and mentor operators and crews to achieve and exceed KPIs.
• Collaborate with two Training Specialists and communicate training needs with Mining Supervisors and the Training Coordinator.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and OEM partners, acting as Thiess’s subject‑matter expert onsite.
• Drive continuous improvement of training programmes and support autonomous project maintenance.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Trainer Assessor in mining or heavy industry.
• Background in surface or underground mining trade or technical operations with a track record of delivering Caterpillar‑based training.
• Strong knowledge of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (QLD) and related regulations.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.

Required skills

• Caterpillar Minestar expertise.
• Autonomous systems training delivery.
• Trainer Assessor competency.
• Knowledge of QLD coal mining safety legislation.
