Audit Director – Australia Retail

About the role

The Audit Director – Australia Retail leads the delivery of independent, high‑quality assurance across ANZ’s Australia Retail portfolio, including ANZ Lenders Mortgage Insurance, end‑to‑end customer value chains and critical operations. Reporting to the General Manager Audit, the role shapes audit coverage, maintains senior stakeholder relationships and upholds the standards of independence expected of audit leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver independent audit coverage across the Australia Retail portfolio, aligned to key risks and the approved audit plan.
• Form clear, evidence‑based views on governance, risk management and controls, providing credible insights to senior stakeholders.
• Own portfolio‑level risk assessment and contribute to audit planning, shaping coverage priorities.
• Provide constructive challenge and influence to business, risk and operations leaders to strengthen control environments.
• Oversee audit delivery, ensuring high‑quality, timely outcomes and adherence to Internal Audit methodology.
• Maintain strong senior stakeholder relationships and support Internal Audit’s strategic priorities.
• Role‑model the standards, behaviours and independence expected of audit leaders.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading internal audit teams within a banking or financial services environment.
• Deep understanding of governance, risk management and control frameworks in retail banking.
• Ability to influence senior business, risk and operations leaders and provide constructive challenge.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience shaping audit coverage, risk assessment and audit planning for retail portfolios.
