About the role
The School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW is seeking an Associate Professor to lead research and teaching in Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence. This senior academic position will shape the strategic direction of AI research, integrate machine learning with symbolic reasoning, and enhance the school’s reputation nationally and internationally.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead high‑impact research programmes in neurosymbolic AI, including hybrid AI architectures and knowledge representation.
- Secure competitive research funding and manage research projects.
- Supervise higher degree research students to successful completion.
- Deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and contribute to curriculum development.
- Engage with industry partners and contribute to the school’s strategic initiatives and governance.
Required profile
- Established academic with a strong, sustained record of high‑impact publications in neurosymbolic AI.
- National or international reputation in the field.
- Proven ability to obtain research funding and lead research teams.
- Experience in supervising PhD and master’s students.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum design.
