Associate Lawyer - Wills, Estates & Litigation

About the role

Bowen Buchbinder Vilensky (BBV), a Perth-based boutique law firm with over 35 years of history, is hiring a full-time Associate Lawyer for its wills, estates and litigation practice. The role is based in the firm's modern central office at 37 STG and covers estate planning, wills, powers of attorney, probate and estate administration, as well as contested estates and civil disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on estate planning, draft wills, powers of attorney and related documents, and manage probate and estate administration matters
• Handle contested estates and civil disputes, including preparing pleadings, court documents and correspondence
• Appear in relevant courts as required
• Review files, assess legal issues, conduct legal research and prepare written advice
• Negotiate settlements under the firm's Fixed Fee Pricing model
• Collaborate with colleagues, engage with clients professionally and empathetically, and help improve the firm's legal services

Required profile

• Admission as a legal practitioner in Western Australia and eligibility for a current practising certificate
• Prior post-admission experience in private practice, preferably in succession law and litigation, with a minimum of 5 years after graduation
• Ideally a senior candidate who has their own client base or can generate future clients alongside those referred by BBV
• Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, file management, time management and organisational skills
• Client-focused, ethical, able to work independently and in a team

Required skills

• Strong foundation in law, with experience in wills, estates and civil litigation
• Ability to identify and analyse legal issues and give clear, practical advice
• Familiarity with court processes, including drafting court documents, managing filings and appearing at hearings
• Effective negotiation skills for dispute resolution
