Assistant Gardener – Handyperson

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Gardener – Handyperson to join the gardening team at Ballajura Community College. Working under the Senior Gardener, you will help keep the campus grounds, gardens and outdoor learning areas attractive, safe and functional for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees and soft‑landscape features, including the Peace Park, kitchen garden and inclusive play‑learn zones.
• Care for hard‑landscaping such as courts, paving, sports‑area markings and perform minor repairs.
• Keep gardening tools, equipment and machinery clean, serviced and report any faults.
• Carry out general maintenance tasks including painting, minor carpentry and assisting staff with furniture moves.
• Collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services to develop safe‑work procedures, conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with OSH legislation and hazardous‑substance handling.

Required profile

• Experience or training in gardening, landscaping, horticulture or general maintenance.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in an educational environment.
• Commitment to safety standards and willingness to follow established procedures.
