Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are a manufacturing‑based company in Mulgrave, part of an international group delivering high‑precision engineered products. We are looking for a motivated Assistant Accountant to join our ANZ Finance team on a permanent full‑time basis. Reporting to the Finance Operations Manager, this newly created position offers a recent graduate or early‑career professional the chance to gain hands‑on experience across core accounting functions.

Key responsibilities

• Process accounts payable invoices, vendor payments and perform related reconciliations.
• Assist with month‑end close activities including journal entries, accruals, pre‑payments and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and maintain balance‑sheet reconciliations for bank, debtor, creditor and general‑ledger accounts.
• Maintain accurate data in finance systems and help document finance processes.
• Identify and propose improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy and transparency of finance operations.
• Support compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, taxation obligations and company accounting policies.
• Provide general finance administration support to the Finance Operations Manager and the broader ANZ Finance team.

Required profile

• Recent graduate in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business or related discipline, or 1–2 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, double‑entry, accruals, reconciliations and financial statements.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem‑solving abilities with high attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
