Art Director - Motion & Design

About the role

Haus, a digital design studio in Los Angeles, is seeking an experienced Sydney-based Art Director to join its team. The role shapes the visual direction of motion-driven projects, working closely with Creative Directors, Designers and Motion Artists from initial concepts through final delivery. It is a contract position.

Key responsibilities

• Guide the visual direction of static and motion-driven projects, ensuring a high level of craft and consistency from concept to delivery.
• Collaborate with Creative Directors and Executive Creative Directors to turn creative briefs into compelling visual narratives and design approaches.
• Review and give clear, actionable feedback on designs, storyboards, style frames, animatics and motion deliverables.
• Direct designers and mograph artists and help raise the quality of their design and animation.
• Ensure consistency in typography, composition, colour, pacing, transitions and overall visual storytelling.
• Present creative work and explain design decisions to internal stakeholders and clients.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in design or art direction, with a strong portfolio showing an understanding of modern design principles.
• Refined eye for layout, typography, composition and visual storytelling.
• Strong understanding of motion design principles, including timing, pacing, transitions and animation techniques.
• Experience developing and reviewing style frames, storyboards, moodboards and motion treatments.
• Ability to direct motion designers and give constructive, actionable feedback during animation.
• Confident presenting creative work and collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams; collaborative, ego-free approach.

Required skills

• Fluency in Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.
• Own equipment and tools needed to complete the contract.

The contract rate is to be determined based on experience and local market rates. Candidates must hold an active Australian Business Number (ABN) and their own professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
