APS6 Finance Officer

About the role

The APS6 Finance Officer will join a Federal Government agency in Canberra, supporting financial planning, budgeting and reporting for a major national infrastructure project. Working within a collaborative finance team, you will provide analysis, develop budget statements and advise senior decision‑makers with accurate financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation and maintenance of external budgets within CBMS.
• Assist with Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS), estimate updates and reporting activities.
• Contribute to New Policy Proposal (NPP) costings and financial analysis.
• Undertake financial modelling, forecasting and budget monitoring.
• Prepare monthly financial reports for senior executives.
• Engage with business areas to identify budget requirements and forecast expenditure.
• Monitor financial administration processes and respond to finance enquiries.
• Support governance activities including Senate Estimates briefs and financial reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting practices.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in financial roles, ideally within government or large‑scale projects.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain a Baseline Vetting security clearance.
• Willingness to undergo a medical assessment if required.
