Aluminium Smelter Operator – Boyne Smelters

About the role

Join Boyne Smelters as an Operator and help produce aluminium for global markets. No prior experience is required – you will receive full training and support to develop a new career in heavy industry.

Key responsibilities

• Operate cranes to set anodes, tap metal and perform cell‑tending tasks.
• Drive and control mobile equipment such as forklifts, elevated work platforms, gantry cranes, bobcats or dozers.
• Carry out process operations including cell dressing, beam raising, ore hopper filling, tapping, metal casting and furnace preparation.
• Use control panels for process control, operate scabble guns, isolate/de‑isolate equipment, and conduct process sampling.
• Transport metal using specialised equipment, operate casting pits, ingot machines, cutting saws and perform product inspection and quality control.
• Fabricate M‑straps and handle dross safely.

Required profile

• Current valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and manage workload autonomously.
• Willingness to work in labour‑intensive, confined‑space, high‑heat and height environments.
• Readiness for a lifestyle roster of 12‑hour shifts, including days and nights.
• Previous experience in auxiliary fire service, SES, ERT, surf lifesaving or first aid is advantageous.
