Advisor – Legislation Services

About the role

The Legislation Services team within the Cabinet, Legislation and Executive Services Unit is seeking an Advisor to support transport legislation projects. You will work in a fast‑paced environment, ensuring new laws are ready for Executive Council, Cabinet and Parliament.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and reviewing transport legislation for Executive Council, Cabinet and parliamentary consideration.
• Provide quality‑assurance checks on legislative documents and advise on early‑stage policy processes.
• Progress delegations of legislative power and coordinate department responses to local councils for State Interest Checks.
• Prepare briefing materials for Ministers and Parliamentary Committees.
• Review and update legislation, including drafting instructions for subordinate legislation and liaising with the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel.
• Offer professional advice on the TMR legislative program and related processes.

Required profile

• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality outcomes.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and switch between tasks efficiently.
• Previous experience in a legislative or policy officer role (highly regarded).
• Experience processing legislative delegations (highly regarded).
• Strong teamwork and relationship‑building skills.
• Willingness to undergo a criminal history check due to access to sensitive data.
