Works Officer

About the role

The Works Officer joins the City Works team to deliver safe and efficient construction and maintenance services for city assets. This permanent role involves hands‑on labour, operating plant and equipment, and supporting a customer‑focused, commercially driven operation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective, efficient, and safe construction or maintenance services across a range of City Works activities.
• Assist the City Works Department in delivering a customer‑focused and commercially driven service.
• Accurately record operational activities and submit documentation to the supervisor weekly or as required.
• Operate and maintain plant and equipment in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, codes of practice and organisational directives.
• Adhere to health and safety policies, using appropriate personal protective equipment.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in road‑related maintenance or civil construction tasks.
• Ability to perform manual work, including lifting, in line with occupational health and safety guidelines.
• Knowledge of safe work practices within a civil engineering environment.
• Strong communication skills to engage with residents and obtain cooperation.
• Effective time‑management and ability to organise work to meet objectives.
• Current Victorian driver’s licence; Medium Rigid truck licence or willingness to obtain one.

• Band 3 salary of $70,838 plus superannuation (effective 1 July 2026).
