Superintendent – Contractor Management, Site Work & HSE

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Superintendent to lead contractor management, site work and HSE activities across its Perth hub. The role ensures that vendor‑delivered work is planned, governed and executed safely, effectively and predictably in line with Rio Tinto standards.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with delivery leads, project managers and contract owners to strengthen planning and definition of site‑based work before mobilisation.
• Coach contract owners on scope development, supplier qualification, execution methodologies and safe work design.
• Identify and escalate planning gaps that could impact safety, schedule or productivity.
• Own contractor management demand and capacity forecasting across the PMO portfolio.
• Allocate CMS Supervisors as subject‑matter experts across programmes and projects.
• Maintain IS&T APAC HSES procedures, systems and data, supporting incident response and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safety for self, team and all contractors on site.
• Deep understanding of WA WHS (Mines) regulations and related workplace health and safety legislation.
• Proven experience applying HSES principles to work design, planning assurance and risk reduction.
• Experience leading or supporting incident investigations and using HSES tools.
• Capability in contractor, supplier and performance management within complex delivery environments.
• Confidence engaging with project managers, delivery leads and site stakeholders to influence safe outcomes.

Required skills

• Knowledge of WA WHS (Mines) regulations.
• Experience with HSES risk assessment and safe work design.
• Incident investigation expertise.
