Senior Software Engineer – Research Informatics

About the role

Mammoth Biosciences is looking for a Senior Software Engineer I, Research Informatics to join its Computational team. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering and biology, supporting CRISPR gene‑editing programs from discovery through IND‑enabling studies by building analysis pipelines, managing data models, and creating internal tools for scientists.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own relational data models and pipelines that drive scientific decisions, integrating with existing production systems such as Benchling.
• Define and refine data ingestion, modeling, and query processes to support assay result analysis.
• Collaborate with wet‑lab scientists to build internal analysis tools and improve web applications used to launch analyses and access data.
• Maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS and automation tooling, ensuring reliable operation of research pipelines.
• Enable responsible and reproducible use of AI across the company and document systems to improve engineering standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in computer science, biology or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in life sciences (or 5 years with a Master’s, 3 years with a PhD).
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with AWS services (S3, Batch, RDS, EC2, Lambda) and Docker.
• Experience with web development (ReactJS, HTML, CSS) and relational databases (SQL, data modeling).
• Proficiency with git‑based collaborative development, code review, automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
