Senior Laboratory Assistant - Geochemistry

About the role

ALS Geochemistry in Townsville is looking for a Senior Laboratory Assistant to join a team that delivers quality results on time and exceeds customer expectations. This is a full-time position focused on operating AAS instrumentation, working 8-hour shifts Monday to Friday on a rotating roster between the Day Shift (7:00 am to 3:00 pm) and the Afternoon Shift (3:00 pm to 11:00 pm).

Key responsibilities

• Process samples in a digestion laboratory and analyse geochemical and Fire Assay samples using AAS instrumentation.
• Perform instrument and equipment calibration and maintenance as required.
• Troubleshoot instrument and quality-related issues.
• Prepare, calibrate and test standards and instrument QC solutions.
• Review QC raw data and analytical results.
• Ensure client turnaround times are consistently met.
• Work autonomously after training and assist with other duties as the role develops.
• Safely handle hazardous chemicals and solvents.

Required profile

• Certificate IV or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, or a Bachelor of Science degree, highly regarded.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a digestion and/or instrumentation laboratory.
• Previous experience with ICP-OES, AAS and/or ICP-MS is desirable.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and to be mobile within the ALS network of laboratories.
• Eligible to work in Australia (citizen or permanent resident, or valid working visa).
