Senior Database Administrator (SQL Server)

About the role

A leading Australian financial institution is looking for a Senior Database Administrator to safeguard and evolve its enterprise SQL Server estate, which runs at massive scale and underpins millions of daily transactions. The role combines deep knowledge of database internals with modern AIOps practices, using telemetry, predictive modelling and automation to streamline database management and reduce operational toil.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise thousands of mission-critical SQL Server 2016+ instances, ensuring resilient high availability with Always-On Availability Groups and WSFC
• Apply AI-assisted query tuning, anomaly detection and log correlation, together with Power BI trend reporting, to forecast capacity and prevent performance bottlenecks
• Write T-SQL and PowerShell scripts to automate database provisioning, patching and maintenance
• Support cloud migration to Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance and AWS RDS for SQL Server
• Keep least-privilege security, encryption and auditing standards in line with banking regulations, and take part in an on-call roster for major incidents
• Design, test and manage disaster recovery strategies

Required profile

• 8+ years managing enterprise SQL Server
• Expert in query tuning and relational design
• Specialised in HA/DR and Always-On Availability Groups

Required skills

• T-SQL and PowerShell automation
• SQL Server 2016+ and high availability configurations
