About the role
Canva is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Export team, which powers the critical workflow of turning designs into downloadable files for millions of users each week.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with a staff engineer to investigate and resolve complex Chromium issues, including upgrade breakages and rendering race conditions.
- Own the PDF accessibility post‑processing pipeline, adding proper tagging and compliance (PDF/UA, WCAG) for Enterprise customers.
- Build monitoring and testing infrastructure to catch Chromium changes before they reach production.
- Design accessibility solutions that withstand frequent Chromium output changes.
- Contribute to export infrastructure challenges such as format optimisation and distributed systems reliability.
Required profile
- Deep experience with Chromium or another browser rendering engine.
- Strong Java backend development skills.
- Ability to debug layered systems spanning multiple codebases and languages.
- Knowledge of PDF specifications or experience with PDF generation and post‑processing.
