Sample Preparer - Wangara

About the role

ALS is seeking multiple Sample Preparers for its Geochemistry site in Wangara, Western Australia. The role supports mining and exploration clients by preparing samples for chemical analysis in a warehouse where machinery is used to crush, split and pulverise mineral samples. It is a casual position but requires full-time availability Monday to Friday on a fortnightly rotating roster (2 weeks day shift, 2 weeks night shift, 2 weeks afternoon shift). Full training is provided.

Key responsibilities

• Operate sample preparation equipment according to the procedures in the relevant QWIs
• Sort received samples according to the client's submission form and record discrepancies on the sample sorting sheet
• Apply barcode labels, capture received sample weights in the Gems interface and transfer scanned samples to drying racks
• Crush, riffle, split and sieve samples before drying them at the specified temperature
• Operate pulverising mills to reach the required end-product specification
• Inform the supervisor promptly of issues such as excessively wet samples or machinery breakdowns
• Maintain machinery and equipment and keep work areas clean and tidy

Required profile

• Available to work full-time hours and full rotating rosters
• Ability to follow set procedures and excellent attention to detail
• Reliable, physically fit and able to carry out repetitive manual handling tasks
• Previous production experience and flexibility with availability are highly advantageous
• Must wear a half-face respirator in a dusty environment, which means being clean-shaven
• Eligible to work at ALS: citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or holds or can obtain a valid working visa
