Research Fellow – Human‑Robot Interaction

About the role

The University of Melbourne invites applications for a 48‑month Fixed‑Term Research Fellow to lead cutting‑edge research in Human‑Robot Interaction within the School of Computing and Information Systems. This role offers the chance to develop an independent research programme, publish in top venues, and contribute to teaching and mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and analyse high‑quality experiments in human‑robot/AI interaction.
• Publish peer‑reviewed papers in leading conferences and journals.
• Develop and manage research plans, timelines, and documentation.
• Teach, supervise, and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students through lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance the School’s research profile.
• Participate in seminars, committees, outreach activities, and support funding proposals.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Human‑Robot Interaction, Human‑AI Interaction or a closely related discipline.
• Strong publication record in HRI, robotics, or HCI venues.
• Ability to conduct independent, innovative research and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Self‑management skills with minimal supervision.
