Personnel Security Vetting Officer

About the role

This is an office-based, Canberra position (RG Casey Building, Barton, ACT) for a Personnel Security Vetting Officer working in the Security Clearances and Maintenance (SCV) team, under the supervision of the Assistant Director Vetting. The role involves undertaking security vetting in line with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and DFAT procedures. The contract is 12 months with an option to extend by up to 12 months, and the role closes on 28/10/2026.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake security vetting according to the PSPF and DFAT standard operating procedures, using a case management system and other DFAT systems
• Provide sound advice on clearance outcomes and be receptive to feedback
• Assess and manage complex assessment work and prepare documentation to a high standard
• Manage a Quality Assurance (QA) caseload, working with established service providers in line with PSPF and DFAT QA standards
• Work to tight deadlines, managing shifting priorities and a high tempo of work
• Carry out other administrative support or security functions, such as inbox management and assessing change of circumstance forms

Required profile

• Cert IV in Government (Personnel Security Vetting)
• Minimum NV1 security clearance
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently or in a team, with minimal supervision, and to manage competing priorities
• Professionalism with a wide range of stakeholders, integrity and commitment to the APS values and APS Code of Conduct
