Part-time Tug Engineer (50% schedule)

About the role

Svitzer is seeking a qualified Tug Engineer to join its crew on a permanent, part‑time basis (50% of a full‑time schedule). You will support safe vessel movements by maintaining and repairing onboard machinery and assisting with towage operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain all engine room and deck machinery, including marine engines, propulsion and auxiliary systems.
• Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on marine systems and equipment.
• Support safe winch operation during towage jobs.
• Identify, record and report defects promptly.
• Prepare maintenance logs and operational reports as required.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures, regulations and company policies.
• Assist on deck when needed to support crew and vessel operations.
• Participate in drills, training and skills development activities.

Required profile

• Minimum Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency (or equivalent).
• Valid AMSA medical certificate matching the competency.
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Strong focus on safety and procedural compliance.
• Ability to stay calm, think clearly and adapt to changing conditions.
• Legal right to live and work in Australia.
