Mid-Level Freedom of Information Lawyer

About the role

SPA Australia is seeking a mid‑level Freedom of Information (FOI) Lawyer to join its Legal Group. You will work directly with Commonwealth government clients, providing expert legal and strategic advice on complex FOI matters and ensuring compliance with the FOI Act.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal and strategic advice to government clients on complex FOI issues.
• Process FOI requests and internal review applications to ensure compliance with the FOI Act.
• Assist with the preparation of legal opinions, submissions, and policy recommendations related to information law.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across administrative, commercial, and litigation practice areas.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in a law firm or government legal department.
• Qualified lawyer with a current practising certificate in Australia.
• Demonstrated experience in administrative law, information law, or related fields.
• Strong analytical and communication skills with a client‑focused mindset.
