Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

About the role

ALS is seeking enthusiastic Technicians for its metallurgical services business based in Perth, WA. The position is based in the Balcatta laboratory and is a casual role of up to 75 hours per fortnight, with day, afternoon and occasional night shifts. It is not a FIFO mine site position, and all training is provided. Successful candidates are considered for permanent full-time employment after a period of service.

Key responsibilities

• Perform metallurgical laboratory testwork procedures safely and accurately to meet client expectations, reporting to the Area Supervisor
• Clean, label, weigh, bulk and prepare samples, digest and fuse them, operate instruments and run classical methods
• Complete jobs and runs for subsequent procedures
• Apply good time management so routine work is safe, accurate and on time
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and comply strictly with ALS procedures and policies

Required profile

• Previous experience in similar laboratory or mine site roles is highly regarded; training is provided for those with no experience
• Ability to work day and afternoon shifts, including occasional night shifts
• Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks
• Eligible to work in Australia (citizen or permanent resident, or holder of a valid working visa)
