Mechanical Engineer – Zinc Refinery

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support a zinc refinery plant in Townsville, Brisbane. The role involves providing engineering expertise across reliability, maintenance, operations and project activities to ensure safe and efficient plant performance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support to operations, maintenance and project teams.
• Develop, review and approve mechanical designs, specifications, calculations and technical documentation in line with AS, ASME and API standards.
• Design, develop and test mechanical systems and equipment, including specification for manufacturing and installation.
• Conduct plant layout, equipment capacity and system performance evaluations to improve efficiency.
• Analyse mechanical failures and maintenance data, determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Prepare equipment specifications, material selection and process requirements for procurement and fabrication.
• Create and review engineering standards, procedures and inspection criteria.
• Support continuous‑improvement initiatives, Management of Change (MOC) assessments and hazard‑identification activities.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of practical experience supervising and coordinating mechanical works in construction, manufacturing or process‑plant environments.
• Eligibility to work in Australia (citizen, PR, work permit or skilled visa such as 491, 482, 190).
• Proven ability to guide small‑to‑medium teams and ensure compliance with engineering, safety and quality requirements.
