Lived Experience Worker (Peer Support)

About the role

Mercy Health is recruiting a Lived Experience Worker for its Clare Moore Building, a 54-bed adult mental health inpatient unit at Werribee Mercy Hospital serving consumers aged 18-64 years. The unit has one Intensive Care Area and three Recovery Care Areas. This peer support role empowers consumers to build resilience and take an active part in their recovery, working within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide psychosocial support, safety planning, recovery and wellness planning, individual peer support and advocacy
• Contribute to clinical review processes and team activities
• Help consumers understand their rights and responsibilities
• Support recovery-oriented practice
• Assist staff in giving information to consumers
• Help develop, review and provide information resources for consumers and their families and carers

Required profile

• Lived experience of mental ill-health and treatment within a mental health service
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
• Current driver's licence
• National Police Check, Working with Children Check, right to work in Australia and evidence of COVID-19 booster vaccination or medical exemption
• Intentional Peer Support Training completed or enrolled
