Legal Specialist – Workers Compensation Claims

About the role

The Legal Specialist will manage Work Injury Damages claims within the NSW Workers Compensation scheme, providing expert advice and support to the business and liaising with employers, panel solicitors and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Offer legal guidance on workers compensation claims and strategic claims management.
• Partner with panel solicitors to assist employers with investigations, litigation and settlement negotiations.
• Oversee assigned litigation claims, ensuring timely resolution and conducting additional investigations as needed.
• Coach business teams on handling complex legal claims.
• Negotiate with recovery agents and third‑party solicitors to reduce settlement costs.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or industry accreditations.
• Experience managing complex legal claims in regulated environments.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret complex information and make decisions.
• Proven conflict‑resolution skills with the ability to escalate issues appropriately.
• Excellent relationship‑building and influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
