Head of Diagnostics - ANZ

About the role

AstraZeneca is looking for a Head of Diagnostics ANZ to lead its Diagnostics function across Australia and New Zealand, based at the AZ Head Office in North Ryde. The role shapes companion diagnostic strategy, helps precision medicine reach the patients who need it, and embeds diagnostics into oncology strategy, launch readiness and execution. Hybrid working is offered (3 days in the office).

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop the Diagnostics Manager team, setting clear priorities and building specialist capability.
• Shape and execute diagnostic strategy, turning field and customer insights into actions that strengthen companion diagnostic adoption.
• Embed diagnostics into Oncology strategy and launch planning, working across brands and franchises.
• Build strategic partnerships with diagnostic companies, laboratory networks, pathologists, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders.
• Identify and address barriers across diagnostic pathways, focusing on testing adoption, quality and accessibility.
• Work cross-functionally with Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, Marketing and Sales to connect diagnostic priorities with broader business strategy.

Required profile

• Significant experience in diagnostics, pharmaceuticals or the precision medicine ecosystem, with expertise in diagnostic strategy, partnerships or testing pathways.
• Proven experience leading and developing an in-field team.
• Strong knowledge of diagnostic customers and market dynamics.
• Demonstrated experience developing strategy and business plans and turning priorities into execution.
• Desirable: experience in Oncology, precision medicine or companion diagnostics; launch or launch-readiness experience; advanced qualification such as a PhD, MD or MBA; experience developing business cases and influencing senior stakeholders.
