Graduate Mental Health Social Worker

About the role

Mercy Health is recruiting graduate mental health social workers for a part-time, fixed-term position (0.8 EFT, 64 hours per fortnight) starting 8 February 2027 and running until 4 February 2029. The role is rotational across the Wyndham and Hobsons Bay areas, with opportunities to build skills in bed-based, residential/rehabilitation and community settings, and potential for shift work in the second year. It is open to graduates who are currently studying or have recently completed their social work degree.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, client-focused social work interventions to clients, their families and carers within a holistic, recovery-oriented, strengths-based and culturally sensitive approach.
• Work in a supportive multi-disciplinary team in a high-growth metropolitan mental health program, offering responsive and flexible service.
• Take part in a thorough orientation, paid study days, structured internal and external training, discipline-specific clinical supervision and reflective practice sessions.

Required profile

• Resilient, compassionate and committed to patient-centred care.
• Passion for mental health and excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem solve.
• A compassionate, flexible and positive approach to patient care and management, and the ability to build respectful, collaborative relationships.
• Evidence of, or progress toward, a current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
• Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccinations consistent with public health orders.
• Full Australian working rights (able to work a minimum of 64 hours per fortnight).
• Approved degree in Social Work and current or eligible registration with the AASW.
• Current Victorian driver's licence (needed for the second-year community rotation).
