General Practitioner – Medical Officer

About the role

Serco is seeking an experienced General Practitioner to join the ADF Health Services team at Lavarack Health Centre in Townsville. As a Medical Officer you will deliver primary medical care to Australian Defence Force personnel, supporting their health and wellbeing before, during and after deployments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary medical care in outpatient and inpatient (low‑dependency ward) settings.
• Assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and manage ongoing health concerns.
• Offer medical technical advice to the Joint Health Unit Commanding Officer, Joint Health Command Health Centre Manager and unit commanders.
• Collaborate with senior medical officers and uniformed colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in shift work, including potential weekend coverage, to meet the centre’s operating hours.

Required profile

• Qualified General Practitioner with current registration to practise in Australia.
• Proven experience in primary care and ability to work in a defence health environment.
• Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
• Willingness to adhere to Defence policies, legislation and professional standards.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and diagnosis.
• Medical documentation and record‑keeping.
• Knowledge of defence health policies and fitness‑for‑duty assessments.
• Capability to provide medical advice to senior leadership.
