Experienced Engineer - Dams & Hydropower

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Experienced Engineer to join its National Dams & Hydropower team in Melbourne. You will work on high‑profile dam and hydropower projects across Australia and New Zealand, collaborating with senior specialists and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior engineers from conceptual through detailed design of water dams.
• Participate in dam safety reviews, inspections and condition assessments.
• Ensure all analysis and design comply with Australian Standards, ANCOLD guidelines and SMEC quality systems.
• Collaborate proactively with multidisciplinary team members and external stakeholders to deliver high‑quality, timely project outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or higher qualification).
• Minimum 4+ years post‑graduate experience on a range of dam types.
• Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards and ANCOLD guidelines.
• Positive, can‑do attitude with initiative and strong interpersonal skills.
