Electrical Maintainer/Operator – Track Machines

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking an Electrical Maintainer/Operator to safely maintain and operate track machines such as Tampers, Regulators and Dynamic Stabilizers. The role is based at the 2 Mile facility with travel across the RTIO Rail network, offering residential (Karratha) and FIFO (Perth) options.

Key responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety, environmental and quality standards in line with Rio Tinto procedures and legislation.
• Maintain and operate rail resurfacing equipment according to the weekly schedule, performing fault finding and rectification as needed.
• Conduct scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance following Rio Tinto and OEM specifications.
• Record work completed, parts used and compliance data in SAP or equivalent systems.
• Close out work using proper work‑management processes, including daily reports and machine ALC files.
• Identify continuous‑improvement opportunities to enhance reliability and reduce costs.
• Support other maintenance and renewal teams when resurfacing is required.
• Participate in training and development activities to maintain competency and share knowledge.

Required profile

• Commitment to personal and team safety.
• Grade WA electrical licence.
• Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure (Resurfacing).
• Minimum 2 years operating Plasser track machines and Plasser ALC (Smart ALC highly desirable).
• Experience with industrial control systems and automation.
• Strong fault‑finding and system‑level diagnostic skills.
• Current manual C‑class driver’s licence.
• Excellent communication and ability to work independently in remote environments.
