Early Parenting Practitioner

About the role

The O'Connell Family Centre in Canberra is recruiting an Early Parenting Practitioner for its Early Parenting Centre (EPC). EPCs support happy, healthy, safe and thriving babies and toddlers by promoting the parent-child relationship and giving parents strategies for goals such as sleep and settling, child behaviour and family health and wellbeing. The centre serves Victorian families with children aged 0-4 years and is open Monday to Friday, closed on weekends, 50 weeks a year with a 2-week closure over Christmas and New Year.

Key responsibilities

• Provide responsive early parenting support to families with children up to their 4th birthday
• Actively participate as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet the complex needs of families
• Provide emotional and practical support and guidance for the health and wellbeing of children

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Early Childhood Development, or a Kindergarten teacher qualification at diploma level or above, or an AHPRA-registered Enrolled Nurse with Mothercraft Nursing
• Understanding of key child development issues relating to a diverse range of parents and families
• Passion for working in early-parenting centres and the current changing model of care
• Resilient, compassionate and committed to family-centred care
• Current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check, and proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccinations consistent with public health orders

Required skills

• Well-developed risk and needs assessment skills
• APHRA registration (where applicable)
• Clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem solve
• Compassionate, flexible and positive approach to patient care and management
• Ability to nurture respectful relationships and contribute to a collaborative team

What we offer

• Casual employment, 1400 to 2230, 0700 to 1530 and 2200 to 0730 hours
• Pay as per the EBA
