Data Engineer, SQL Specialist

About the role

Adelaide University is seeking an experienced SQL specialist to design, develop and optimise enterprise data solutions that support data-driven decision-making across the university. The role sits in the Business Intelligence team at the City West campus, within the Performance, Data and Insights function, and works closely with the Chief Data and Analytics Officer, the Director of Business Intelligence and the IT and Finance teams. It is a full-time, 24-month fixed-term position.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain data pipelines, transformations, models and reporting datasets so that trusted, accessible data supports strategic and operational outcomes.
• Apply advanced SQL expertise to build enterprise data solutions and analytics.
• Work with stakeholders to understand their needs and manage expectations.

Required profile

• Advanced SQL expertise, including complex query development, optimisation, troubleshooting and data transformation.
• Experience in data manipulation, preparation and integration.
• Experience designing, developing and supporting data pipelines, models and processes.
• Proficiency in data management and business intelligence concepts and practices.
• Experience with data manipulation tools and/or programming languages such as SQL, DBT, Microsoft Fabric and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.

Experience with cloud data platforms, data engineering, ETL/ELT pipelines and modern analytics platforms is desirable, but on-the-job training can be provided for the right candidate.
