Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

Athena Home Loans is looking for a proactive Cyber Security Engineer to protect its internal and customer‑facing systems. Reporting to the Head of Portfolio Technology, you will join a fast‑moving fintech team that values independence, innovation and a collaborative culture.

Key responsibilities

• Hunt, detect and respond to cyber threats and incidents across Athena’s internal and external environments.
• Liaise with an external Security Operations Centre to coordinate investigations and remediation.
• Provide security guidance to technology and business teams to enable safe, rapid delivery of new features.
• Contribute to the security roadmap and help shape future security initiatives.
• Build tools, scripts and processes that improve Athena’s security posture and operational efficiency.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of experience in a security or operational security role.
• Self‑starter attitude with a strong problem‑solving mindset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to adapt messages for different audiences.
• Comfortable working in an agile, fast‑paced environment.
• Passion for security and continuous learning.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with cloud infrastructure security, particularly AWS services.
• Familiarity with OWASP Top 10, common CWE categories and secure coding practices.
• Ability to write scripts (e.g., Python) to automate security tasks.
• Experience monitoring, hunting and responding to threats in both internal and external environments.
