Clinical Nurse Consultant (Emergency)

About the role

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant for our busy Emergency Department at Rockhampton Hospital. The role provides expert clinical leadership, guiding multidisciplinary teams through complex, high‑risk presentations and ensuring evidence‑based patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor nursing staff in the Emergency Department, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Develop, implement and evaluate evidence‑based models of care, policies and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient flow, safety and outcomes.
• Oversee clinical portfolios, conduct audits, manage risk and ensure compliance with national standards and hospital governance.
• Participate in education, research and professional development activities, supporting the growth of the nursing team.
• Provide direct high‑acuity patient care, applying advanced assessment and critical decision‑making skills.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Extensive experience as an emergency nurse delivering person‑centred, high‑quality care.
• Strong clinical leadership, teamwork and mentoring abilities.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment and manage complex cases.

Required skills

• Advanced emergency/critical care nursing knowledge.
• Clinical governance, audit and risk management expertise.
• Evidence‑based practice development.
