Bus Aide – School Transportation Support

About the role

The Bus Aide assists the school bus driver in ensuring a safe, orderly, and courteous ride for student passengers throughout the 2026‑2027 school year. This position supports loading and unloading, monitors student behavior, and provides basic safety assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Check and account for all student passengers before departure and upon arrival.
• Maintain order on the bus, ensuring students are seated promptly and remain seated until the destination.
• Assist students in wheelchairs and apply safety/ restraining devices as needed.
• Help students on and off the bus, guiding them safely across streets.
• Monitor behavior, report incidents to the driver or transportation supervisor, and keep a daily log.
• Operate the bus radio in emergencies and administer first‑aid when required.
• Attend training workshops, meetings, and conferences as scheduled.

Required profile

• Residency in the City of Buffalo for at least 90 consecutive days prior to posting.
• Good general intelligence and knowledge of Buffalo’s geography and bus routes.
• Ability to interact positively with students and command their respect.
• Direct supervision received from the Bus Aide Team Leader and Supervisor of Bus Aides.

Required skills

• Operation of bus radio equipment.
• Basic first‑aid administration.
