Technical Director, Municipal Wastewater Process Engineering

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a Technical Director to lead municipal wastewater process engineering across South East Queensland. The role is based in Brisbane (with a focus on the Sunshine Coast) and involves steering complex, high‑impact projects that improve community water infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic technical leadership for a portfolio of municipal wastewater projects.
• Direct detailed design and optimisation of primary, secondary and tertiary treatment processes, including Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) and nutrient recovery technologies.
• Ensure all designs comply with local, state and national regulations (WSA, AS) and industry standards.
• Utilise modelling tools and data analytics to assess system performance, drive energy efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to embed sustainable engineering practices such as biosolids management and resource recovery.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in municipal wastewater engineering and process design.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of Australian wastewater regulations and standards.
• Ability to translate technical data into actionable recommendations.
