Software Engineer (Python & AWS) - Financial Services

About the role

An employer is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Software Engineers with strong Python skills and hands-on AWS experience, ideally with a background in financial services or fintech. Recruitment starts in December 2026. You will help build and maintain secure, scalable backend systems, APIs and cloud solutions that support financial products and services. The position is full-time and permanent, based in Melbourne with a hybrid arrangement of three days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable backend applications and microservices using Python (FastAPI, Django or Flask)
• Build, deploy and support secure cloud infrastructure within AWS
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs, banking systems, payment gateways and financial data providers
• Build and maintain data pipelines for financial reporting and transaction processing
• Implement security, compliance and software engineering best practices
• Work with Product, Engineering, QA and Security teams to deliver high-quality solutions

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software development experience, focused on backend engineering
• Professional experience in financial services, fintech, banking or investment management
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and working with relational and non-relational databases

Required skills

• Strong Python, including asynchronous programming
• AWS (Lambda, EC2, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM)
• CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Git and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
• Nice to have: event-driven architectures (SQS, SNS, Kafka), financial market data or trading systems, SOC 2, PCI-DSS or GDPR knowledge

What we offer

• Salary of $100,000 to $120,000 plus superannuation
• Hybrid work, 3 days per week in the office
