Software Developer (Analyst Programmer)
covetrus · Sydney
Job description
About the role
Covetrus, a global animal-health technology and services company, is looking for a Software Developer (internally called Analyst/Programmer) to join its Development team in Sydney, reporting to the Development Team Lead. You will work on the systems supporting the business across Australia and New Zealand: customer-facing platforms, core business systems and the integrations connecting them with finance, warehousing and partner platforms. The team uses AI-assisted development tools as a normal part of its work.
Key responsibilities
- Own small to medium projects and change requests end to end, from requirements through to release and handover (larger initiatives are run with a designated Project Manager).
- Work with business stakeholders to understand processes and problems, clarify requirements and agree on scope and acceptance criteria.
- Design practical, maintainable solutions and propose alternatives where a simpler or better way exists.
- Build and modify features, integrations and automations across the stack, using AI-assisted tools.
- Develop and maintain integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms, choosing the right technology for each.
- Test your own work, coordinate user acceptance testing with stakeholders and manage issues through to sign-off.
- Plan and carry out releases, and produce the documentation needed for handover.
- Contribute to code reviews, team practices and how the team uses AI tools.
Required profile
- Mid to senior level commercial software development experience.
- Confidence working directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements and manage expectations, and the ability to manage your own work.
- A disciplined approach to testing, UAT and release, with the understanding that delivery is complete once the solution works in production and is supported.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and languages; prior experience with less common platforms is not expected.
Required skills
- Solid understanding of application design, relational databases and SQL, and system integration (APIs, file-based and message-based interfaces).
- Practical, day-to-day experience with AI-assisted development tools, including reviewing, testing and owning the code they help produce.
- Desirable: C# / .NET experience, experience with Windows and Linux server environments, and experience with ERP, warehouse, finance or e-commerce systems.
What we offer
- Family-friendly culture and flexible hybrid work-from-home options, with dog-friendly offices for select roles and locations.
- Discounts on animal health food and enrichment products, and access to Perkbox/Boost apps.
- Additional leave benefits such as annual birthday leave, paid parental leave and the option to buy extra leave.
- Employee assistance program, quarterly awards, professional development courses, annual flu vaccinations and volunteer days.
