Senior Platform Engineer

About the role

The Public Cloud Container Services (PCCS) team manages the group's Kubernetes-based Platform as a Service (PaaS) on AWS, offering a production-ready, secure and managed environment for containerised applications and cloud-native resources. The Senior Platform Engineer designs, builds, runs and evolves the tools, infrastructure, templates and capabilities that other engineers use to deliver business value, and writes code that automates running infrastructure and environments.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with customer-facing product engineers to design, build and run platforms that deliver customer value quickly and safely.
• Maintain the underlying infrastructure so it is reliable, secure and scalable, and identify opportunities to automate it as a self-service platform.
• Create a standardised set of tooling for deploying and running applications, following best practices.
• Write code to automate deployment and operations, using languages such as Python and Go.
• Continually evolve the platforms to embrace new technology and improve the efficiency of software engineers.
• Participate in cross-group activities to raise engineering capability and technology solutions.

Required profile

• Experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps, SRE or System Engineer in a cloud environment.
• Familiarity with the full cycle model, where engineers are involved in design, build, challenge and run.
• Passion for designing, developing, deploying and running high-quality software and platforms.
• Natural drive to educate, communicate and positively influence stakeholders, including senior executives.

Required skills

• Container technology: Docker and Kubernetes/EKS, including cluster management, monitoring, autoscaling and networking.
• Programming in Golang or Python.
• Infrastructure as Code: CloudFormation, Terraform or Pulumi.
• CI/CD: CodeBuild, GitHub Actions, GitOps/ArgoCD.
• DevOps/SRE best practices: logging, monitoring and security.
