Senior Financial Auditor

About the role

As a Senior Financial Auditor in the Financial Audit division of the Victorian Auditor‑General’s Office, you will lead and deliver high‑quality financial audits and business‑improvement projects across Victorian state and local government agencies. You will work closely with junior staff and provide independent assurance to Parliament on the reliability and fairness of public sector financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and lead audit work‑streams for a range of public sector entities.
• Prepare audit findings and recommendations that support transparency and accountability.
• Mentor and support junior auditors throughout the audit lifecycle.
• Identify opportunities for operational improvement and report emerging risks.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with Australian Accounting and Auditing Standards.

Required profile

• Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

• Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and report on risks and opportunities.

Required skills

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Auditing Standards.
• Understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements for public sector finance.
• Experience conducting audits, investigations or complex reviews.
• Progress toward a recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g., Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand).
