Senior Engineer – Transport Planning & Advisory

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to lead transport planning and advisory services for major infrastructure projects. Based in Brisbane, you will work within SMEC and the SJ Group to deliver innovative, cost‑effective solutions that meet client expectations and support business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, analysis and design of complex transport engineering projects.
• Deliver high‑quality engineering designs within tight timeframes and budget constraints.
• Prepare technical reports, conduct peer reviews and ensure compliance with statutory, safety and risk requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders to coordinate project delivery.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to junior team members.
• Identify new business opportunities, contribute to proposal development and strengthen client relationships.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering.
• 6–8 years of relevant experience in transport planning and advisory for major infrastructure projects.
• Chartered status (CPEng) and/or RPEQ, or actively working towards it.
• Strong project management capability covering budget, schedule and quality outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information.
