About the role

We are seeking a senior subject‑matter expert to lead Materials & Corrosion engineering for a major South Australian infrastructure organisation. The role is contract‑based (12 months) and will focus on water and wastewater assets, ensuring best‑in‑class technical standards and safety in design.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the Materials & Cathodic Protection discipline across the organisation.
  • Provide specialist investigation, design and technical auditing for capital projects.
  • Coordinate Safety in Design (SiD) consultations with Asset Management, Operations, WHS and Project Delivery teams.
  • Develop and evolve technical standards, codes of practice and specifications for materials and corrosion prevention.
  • Conduct site audits and deliver training to project managers, contractors and regional staff.
  • Identify and recommend emerging technologies that deliver clear benefits.
  • Contribute to the discipline knowledge base and support technical forums and workshops.

Required profile

  • 10+ years of professional engineering experience in materials or corrosion engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia.
  • Specialist expertise in steel and concrete corrosion prevention.
  • Owner’s engineer experience on water industry projects.
  • Experience with cathodic protection (highly regarded).
  • Proven ability to prepare and review standards, codes of practice and specifications.
  • Affiliation with ACA or NACE is advantageous.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel intra‑ and interstate.
