Senior Engineer – Materials & Corrosion

About the role
We are seeking a senior subject‑matter expert to lead Materials & Corrosion engineering for a major South Australian infrastructure organisation. The role is contract‑based (12 months) and will focus on water and wastewater assets, ensuring best‑in‑class technical standards and safety in design.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Materials & Cathodic Protection discipline across the organisation.
- Provide specialist investigation, design and technical auditing for capital projects.
- Coordinate Safety in Design (SiD) consultations with Asset Management, Operations, WHS and Project Delivery teams.
- Develop and evolve technical standards, codes of practice and specifications for materials and corrosion prevention.
- Conduct site audits and deliver training to project managers, contractors and regional staff.
- Identify and recommend emerging technologies that deliver clear benefits.
- Contribute to the discipline knowledge base and support technical forums and workshops.
Required profile
- 10+ years of professional engineering experience in materials or corrosion engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia.
- Specialist expertise in steel and concrete corrosion prevention.
- Owner’s engineer experience on water industry projects.
- Experience with cathodic protection (highly regarded).
- Proven ability to prepare and review standards, codes of practice and specifications.
- Affiliation with ACA or NACE is advantageous.
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel intra‑ and interstate.
