Senior AML Investigator (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The Senior AML Investigator will manage ANZ's AML/CTF risk and reporting obligations, safeguarding the financial system by detecting, investigating and mitigating money‑laundering and financial‑crime risks. The role focuses on high‑quality investigations and Suspicious Matter Reporting (SMR) to ensure compliance with AUSTRAC requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct complex AML investigations, emphasizing emerging risks and intricate networks while monitoring Key Risk Indicators.
• Prepare and submit high‑quality SMRs to AUSTRAC within regulatory deadlines.
• Apply a range of investigative techniques, including direct customer interactions for Enhanced Customer Due Diligence.
• Engage continuously with AUSTRAC and law‑enforcement partners to refer high‑risk matters and provide timely advice on urgent investigations, including national‑security and serious‑crime cases.
• Act as decision‑maker for escalated investigations, ensuring outcomes are risk‑appropriate and compliant.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to improve detection algorithms, escalation processes and overall financial‑crime threat management.
• Coach colleagues, share knowledge and drive enhancements to AML/CTF procedures and capabilities.

Required profile

• Significant experience in AML/CTF investigations within a banking or financial‑services environment.
• Deep knowledge of AUSTRAC reporting requirements and financial‑crime regulations.
• Proven ability to manage complex investigations and make risk‑based decisions.
• Strong stakeholder‑management skills, capable of influencing senior leaders.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
