Senior Advisor – Privacy

About the role

The Senior Advisor (Privacy) will join the Right to Information & Privacy team within Queensland's Department of Customer Services. You will provide expert advice on privacy and information access, conduct privacy impact assessments, and exercise delegated decision‑making under the Information Privacy Act 2009.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advice to the public and internal staff on privacy practices and procedures.
• Conduct privacy impact assessments and identify information flows for projects and programs.
• Exercise decision‑making powers under the Information Privacy Act 2009 and document clear statements of reasons.
• Manage the department’s response to privacy enquiries and complaints, mediating and negotiating resolutions.
• Promote a culture of privacy compliance through training development and delivery.
• Assist in preparing the Information Privacy Plan, reports, briefs, and submissions to senior officials and the Office of the Information Commissioner.
• Maintain records in line with the Public Records Act 2002 and departmental policies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in privacy management, especially the Information Privacy Act 2009 and Queensland Privacy Principles.
• Proven ability to conduct risk and privacy impact assessments.
• Strong capability to interpret legislation and apply decision‑making processes.
• Commitment to professionalism, ethical behaviour, and continuous personal development.
